Upload artwork files in bulk

Set the poster image of many products in one run from a folder or a zip of clean print files. The files go to Content → Files in Shopify.

← All ways to set the poster image
  1. Name the files

Name each file after the product handle, the product ID or a SKU of one of its variants, for example sunset-poster.jpg or 9414401982569.jpg. Upper and lower case do not matter. JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, TIFF and HEIC files are read.

You find the handle in Shopify under the product's search engine listing: it is the last part of the product URL. The product ID is the number at the end of the product's address in the Shopify admin.

  2. Open the upload

In the app, open Products. At the top of the page, click Upload artwork files.

The first upload asks you to give the app access to your store's files. Without it, the app cannot upload.

  3. Choose the files

Click Choose folder or Choose zip or files, or drop the folder, the zip or the files on the box. The app finds the product of each file.

  4. Check the list

The tabs To upload, Needs attention and No match sort the files; All shows every file. Each file shows the product it matched. To match a file to another product, click Change product. To leave a file out, click Remove. “Ratio differs from the poster size” means the image and the poster size have different proportions.

Products that already have a poster image show “Has a poster image” and are not changed, unless you tick the checkbox to replace them. A file with no matching product shows “Skipped”. When two files match one product, the first one that can upload keeps it, and the other shows “Another file has this product”. “Uploads at original size” means your browser cannot read the file, so it goes up as it is, whatever you chose under Image quality.

  5. Choose the image quality and a watermark

Under Image quality, choose Reduced, Standard or High. Standard is sharp in the wall preview, also when zoomed in. To draw text across every image, for example your shop name, enter it in “Watermark text (optional)”.

  6. Upload

Click Upload N files. Each product gets its new poster image as soon as its file is ready. When the run ends, click Close.

Stop starts no new file. A file that is uploading finishes, and the files that did not start show “Not started”. The largest file Shopify accepts is 20 MB. Products with an uploaded file show “Artwork file” on the Products page, and Auto setup leaves them alone.
